Newsletter July 2016

Hello Everyone

Well here we are at the end of July, goodness how this season is rushing by. This year we have mixed results with our teams – the firsts are, unfortunately, struggling whereas the seconds are battling for promotion.

On a much brighter note we recently took part in the Shropshire League Junior Bash competition (not a particularly apt title as the Junior Bash includes all second division clubs and below – a much fairer idea though as the senior bash was premier and first division clubs only) and we won through to the final held at Wem Cricket Club – it was a brilliant evening with Willey bringing along a lot of support all smartly turned out in matching shirts (picture below) and the icing on the cake is that we won against Harcourt Cricket Club. It was a great team effort and we also had the the ‘man of the match’ winner in Nathan Garbett, hitting a magnificent 66.
Now on to other news, we are holding two Junior County matches at the ground one on 4th August and the other on 16th August, we are hoping that the weather will be kind to us, particularly on the 4th as we intend making this an open day and would love to see as many Vice Presidents as are able to pop along to enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy a wonderful Willey tea!

We are also now holding junior training sessions on Sunday mornings and due to their popularity have been asked to extend them through to the end of the season if possible – Richard and Lee organised these sessions and Alan and I popped up a couple of Sundays ago and it was wonderful to see the children so enjoying themselves, it was a beautiful sunny day, coupled with children’s laughter that’s what Willey Cricket Club is all about, the family!

Whilst writing we would like to thank all of our Vice Presidents who have made donations to the club this season, with your help we are able to continue making small improvements to the ground and with this in mind we would like to thank James Hurdley for all of his help and kindness to the club after the break-in and also our thanks to Derek and Mary Rudd for the beautiful flower beds which are an absolute picture. Village clubs such as Willey would be lost without this level of support and interest, so a very big thank you from the club and its members. We are also indebted to the Shropshire County Cricket League small grant fund for their very generous and much appreciated award to help restore our ground maintenance equipment, so depleted by the callous theft.

Well I think thats all for now, hope to see as many of you as possible at our county match.
