Well here we are four weeks to go until Christmas – and the end of another eventful year for Willey Wanderers Cricket Club
We have had a very successful year on the pitch with both teams finishing in very high positions in the league – the First Eleven were very near to obtaining promotion but unfortunately just missed out – but it all augurs well for next season, particularly as three of our members were selected by the Shropshire League in their respective teams of the year – Graham Ball (Div2) and Connor Green and Graham Barker (Reserve Div2) – congratulations and well done!
With that in mind we shall once again be updating and maintaining the ground with plans to renovate the scorebox and more importantly the showers (some of the lads had to endure cold showers as the system is in urgent need of renewal). Already at the end of the season members got together and laid a drainage pipe at the top end of the square and new tarpaulins have been purchased to protect the wicket from quick storms whilst in play. A lot of this has been achieved through a Natwest/Jewsons initiative but also through the very kind donations received from our Vice Presidents – and again this season it was lovely to see so many of you popping up to ground to watch the lads play
The club held a very successful Presentation Evening at the Lion Hotel in October which was well attended – I have attached a list showing our award winners for the 2015 season which I hope you will find of interest.
This will be my last newsletter to you all as I am standing down at the 2016 AGM – I think its time that a younger member take up the reins next season – so whilst writing I would like to thank you for your support through the years and look forward to seeing you up at the ground as I will still be pootling about
Have a really great Christmas and very best wishes for 2016
