Tony ‘Griff’ Griffiths

The club is very sad to announce the passing of long serving member Tony ‘Griff’ Griffiths on Thursday 15th March 2018

Tony was a stalwart part of the family who dedicated 40 years of his life to Willey as a player, committee member and a groundsman. Tony was an enthusiastic teammate and over came much adversity in life to become a solid batsman, wicked spin bowler and a wall in the backward gully position. He held the second team captaincy in the mid 90’s, the position of club trustee for 16 years and was a larger than life character on match days . He will be sorely missed by all at Willey Cricket Club and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

  1. Very sad news.
I was privileged to have known Griff for over thirty years as a teammate and friend. Willey Cricket Club was an enormously important part of his life and we have lost one of the best. Deepest condolences to Zena, Nora and the rest of the family.
    RIP mate.
